Lunar August Harvest Festival

About this event

This is a traditional harvest festival held across the villages of Izena Village. Taking place over the 11th and 12th days of the 8th lunar month, it is held in each of the five communities: Jicchaku, Uchihana, Izena, Shomi, and Nakada. In each community, Eisa folk dances, bojutsu (staff fighting techniques), and various other entertainments are performed by youth groups and women's associations, allowing all generations from children to the elderly to enjoy the festivities throughout the night. Tourists can also watch from in front of the community centers, making it a valuable opportunity to experience the island's traditional culture. This festival is an important event celebrating a bountiful harvest and deepening community ties.
