About this event
The "Tanabu Festival 'Tanabu Shrine Grand Annual Festival'" held in Mutsu City, Aomori Prefecture, is a traditional festival held annually from August 18 to August 20. Said to trace its lineage to Kyoto's Gion Festival via Kitamaebune trading ships, the highlight is the magnificent floats parading through the city to the melodies of festival music (ohayashi). The festival's climax arrives late at night on August 20 with the "Goshawake," where five floats gather together, share barrel sake, and pledge to meet again the following year. Furthermore, on August 18 during the grand festival period, the community-rooted "Oshimako Nagashi Dance" is also held, adding color to the festival.
