Held at the Kenji Miyazawa Fairy Tale Village in Hanamaki City, Iwate Prefecture—the hometown of Kenji Miyazawa—the 'Kenji Miyazawa 130th Anniversary Ihatov Festival 2026' is a summer celebration to enjoy the world of Kenji's works from multifaceted angles. Commemorating the 130th anniversary of Kenji Miyazawa's birth this year, a special program will be presented. In addition to screenings of animated films such as Studio Ghibli director Isao Takahata's masterpiece 'Pom Poko' and director Gisaburo Sugii's 'Night on the Galactic Railroad,' live performances will be given by a diverse lineup of artists including Kazumi Nikaido, Ai Otsuka, Natsuko Nisshoku, and Isono-kun (YONA YONA WEEKENDERS). A special talk session featuring Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki and film director Shunji Iwai will also be held, offering a precious opportunity to connect with the spirit of Kenji Miyazawa. The opening chorus by the Ihatov Children's Choir and the Polano Concert by Yuko Ando, Salyu, and Chima are also scheduled. At the venue, visitors can enjoy the magical 'Fairy Tale Village Forest Light-up' reminiscent of Kenji's literary world, creating a special summer evening. Admission is free; the event will proceed in light rain but will be cancelled in severe weather.
