47th Indian Waterwheel Festival
Japanese name:第47回インディアン水車まつり
📅 Sat, Sep 26, 2026 - Sun, Sep 27, 2026
About this event
This festival allows you to enjoy salmon food culture while watching the Indian waterwheel, a device used to catch salmon swimming up the Chitose River. Fish-catching waterwheels powered purely by water flow are rare in Japan, and you can see its impressive operation up close. At the venue, gourmet booths will be set up where you can savor Chitose's autumn delicacies such as salmon hot pot and salmon roe (ikura) bento boxes. In addition, there are plenty of stage events and activities including yamame (masu salmon) fishing, log-sawing races, armored taiko drum performances, and band performances by the Self-Defense Forces, making it enjoyable for both adults and children. Held at Roadside Station 'Salmon Park Chitose', it is an event where you can fully enjoy the charms of Chitose in autumn.
