Ichinohe Festival
Japanese name:一戸まつり
📅 Fri, Aug 28, 2026 - Sun, Aug 30, 2026
About this event
The Ichinohe Festival is held annually over three days on the last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of August as the joint grand festival of Yasaka Shrine and Inari Shrine. It is also known as the earliest autumn festival held in the northern Iwate region. During the festival, portable shrines (mikoshi) are accompanied by local performing arts of Ichinohe Town, including the 'Neda Shishi Odori' (deer dance), an intangible folk cultural property designated by Iwate Prefecture. Furthermore, the greatest highlight is the procession of 5 elaborately handcrafted festival floats parading throughout the town. These floats preserve the traditional Nanbu style, with everything from decorative items to the doll costumes crafted entirely by hand. The gorgeous and lavish furyu floats created by each float guild are among the top attractions of the Ichinohe Festival.
