About this event

Kozuya Festival is a traditional festival held in conjunction with the annual grand festival of Chinju Hachiman Shrine. Mikoshi (portable shrines) and floats parade splendidly along Iwate Prefectural Road 101 Kozuya Teishajo Line, commonly known as "Kozuya Ekimae-dori". One of the festival's highlights is the dedication of locally rooted traditional performing arts, such as "Kozuya Nanatsu Odori", a town-designated intangible folk cultural property, and "Takayashiki Kagura", a prefecture-designated intangible folk cultural property. These performing arts add further color and historical depth to the festival. On the first day, a local performing arts parade and float processions take place, and on the second day, following the annual grand festival of Hachiman Shrine, the mikoshi transfer and float parade are grandly held. Traffic regulations will be in place during the festival period, so using public transportation or carpooling is recommended.
