Special Exhibition: "The Power of Buddhist Paintings: Exquisite Buddhist Paintings of Tohoku"

In this exhibition, through more than 90 Buddhist paintings including National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties—such as masterpieces connected to the Tohoku region led by the National Treasure "Chuson-ji Sutras", as well as recently rediscovered works—visitors can experience the "power" that captivates people, such as the realization of a peaceful world, hopes for rebirth in the Pure Land, the sacredness of Buddha, and artistic beauty contained in Buddhist paintings. It also conveys that behind their creation, transmission, and preservation to this day was the supportive "power" of many people. Highlights include numerous precious Buddhist paintings on display, such as the National Treasure "Konshi Kinginji Issaikyo (Chuson-ji Sutra)" with wishes embedded in glittering gold and silver, the Heian period "Binzuru-i-Udayen-o-Seppo-kyo", the Miyagi Prefecture Designated Cultural Property "Shaka Seppo-zu" (Preaching of Shakyamuni Buddha), and Important Cultural Properties including "Kumano Gongen Yogo-zu" and "Amida Nijugo Bosatsu Raigo-zu". Some works will undergo exhibition rotations depending on the exhibition period, so visiting multiple times during the run will allow you to explore the world of Buddhist paintings even more deeply.
