40th Shiroishi Zao Plateau Marathon

Featuring one of Japan's most demanding up-and-down courses sprawling at the foot of majestic Mt. Zao, the 'Shiroishi Zao Plateau Marathon' marks its 40th edition this year. Its highlights include the passion of runners tackling the 'extreme slopes' with a maximum elevation gain of 100 meters, along with scenic views immersing participants in the nature of Zao. Track-and-field influencer Miki Shimura is scheduled to participate in the 5km category as a guest runner. In addition to the 20km, 10km, 5km, and 3km categories, a 5km walking category and a parent-child pair category are also available, welcoming a wide range of participants. Participants will receive perks such as a commemorative race T-shirt and a day-trip hot spring bath ticket. Tourist spots such as the Zao Mountain Range, Obara and Kamasaki Onsen, and Shiroishi Castle are dotted along the course, allowing visitors to enjoy sightseeing along with the race. Local specialties include Shiroishi U-men noodles and Yajiro Kokeshi dolls. On race day, complimentary services providing Shiroishi milk, ice cream, and sports drinks will also be available.
