2026 Summer Tour: Grand Sumo Osaki Basho

The "Grand Sumo Osaki Basho" is a summer regional tour event held on August 21, 2026, at Takakatsu Arena Osaki. It is a rare opportunity to interact closely with sumo wrestlers, featuring various events that both sumo fans and beginners can enjoy. The event is full of highlights not seen in the main tournaments, such as a "Hairdressing Demonstration" where you can watch popular wrestlers have their hair styled into the oicho (ginkgo-leaf topknot), and "Shokkiri", a comical demonstration of forbidden moves and rare winning techniques. There are also opportunities for handshake sessions and commemorative photo shoots with popular wrestlers, allowing visitors to experience the special interactions unique to regional tours. The day begins with public morning practice, followed by bouts for Makushita and lower divisions, the hairdressing demonstration, Shokkiri, Sumo Jinku (traditional singing), and drum beating demonstrations, before moving on to the ring-entering ceremonies for Makuuchi and Yokozuna, and finally the Makuuchi division bouts. It will be a day to fully savor the essence of sumo until concluding with the bow-twirling ceremony (Yumitori-shiki). Various souvenir tickets that come with special bento boxes and sumo souvenirs will also be sold at the venue (advance reservation only).
