40th All-Japan Otachizake Folk Song Contest

This national contest aims to promote, preserve, and pass down the folk song "Otachizake," which is said to have originated in the Miyatoko Nanba district of Taiwa Town, Miyagi Prefecture. Reaching its 40th anniversary this year, the event continues the tradition of singing this celebratory song, which has long been cherished and performed at weddings in the rice-growing heartland of Michinoku Miyagi. It is held as an event to promote cultural town development and tourism. At the contest, folk singers Mitsuko Ito and Kiyoko Hirayama will perform as guest artists to enliven the venue. Anyone who loves folk songs can participate with no age restrictions. Awards including Champion, Runner-up, Third Place, Excellence Awards, and Special Awards will be presented. Participation in the contest requires an entry fee, but admission to watch is free. An additional fee applies for those who wish to have lunch. Schedule times may vary depending on the progress of the program.
