About this event

Counted among the three major fireworks festivals in Japan, "Omagari Fireworks" is a national fireworks competition held at Omonogawa Riverbed Athletic Park in Daisen City, Akita Prefecture. Boasting a history of over 100 years, pyrotechnicians selected from across the country compete in technical excellence, aiming for the Prime Minister's Award. The competition is divided into a daytime fireworks division and a nighttime fireworks division; in the daytime division, a rare competition using colored smoke is conducted. In the nighttime division, a diverse array of fireworks fusing tradition and innovation—such as No. 10 size shells and creative fireworks—are displayed. In particular, the creative fireworks set to music are said to have originated at Omagari Fireworks, captivating spectators with their originality and direction. Approximately 18,000 fireworks, including sponsor fireworks and a grand finale star mine, color the summer night sky, creating a breathtaking spectacle. Paid viewing seats are also available, allowing you to enjoy powerful fireworks up close.
