About this event
This is an annual autumn foliage illumination event held at the Former Iwafune Family Garden (Kosetsuen), the only nationally designated cultural property garden in Hokkaido, located in Hakodate City, Hokkaido. It is a scenic landscape garden created in the Meiji era, featuring highlights such as the Shoin-style "Entei" pavilion and a brick "Greenhouse." Visitors can appreciate about 150 species of trees within the park, including maples and Japanese maples; in particular, the approximately 100-meter-long maple tree-lined avenue turns shades of red and yellow during the autumn foliage season, captivating visitors. After sunset, the autumn leaves are lit up, enveloped in a magical atmosphere that creates a space like another world. Illumination takes place from 16:00 to 21:00, and admission is free. Access is about 40 minutes by bus from JR Hakodate Station, followed by a 1-minute walk after getting off at Kosetsuen. Parking facilities are also available.
