About this event

Held at Kitaakita City Cultural Hall, the '21st Kitaakita Folk Performing Arts Convention' is a cultural event bringing together and showcasing traditional performing arts passed down across the various districts of the city. Held annually since the municipal merger in 2006, it plays an important role in deepening understanding of local culture, fostering exchanges among preservation groups, and nurturing future successors. Amid challenges of declining population and shortages of successors, it serves as a valuable opportunity to pass on folk performing arts—the pride of the community—to the future. On the day of the event, in addition to Hitachinai Shishiodori (Lion Dance), Tsuzureko Giant Taiko Drums (Shishiodori and Yakko Odori), and Neko Bangaku, the Honkai Shishimai Bangaku from Yurihonjo City made a special guest appearance, and visitors fully enjoyed the distinctive traditional performing arts passed down in each area. Admission is free, with doors opening at 12:30 and performances starting at 13:30.
