About this event

Held at Dakigaeri Gorge in Semboku City, Akita Prefecture, the "Dakigaeri Autumn Foliage Festival" is an event where visitors can savor stunning autumn vistas. The contrast woven by clear streams glowing in shades from emerald green to cobalt blue, sheer rock walls, primeval forests, and trees turning red and yellow is truly worthy of its reputation as the "Yabakei of Tohoku." In particular, the combination of the red suspension bridge "Kami-no-Iwahashi," the blue gorge stream, and the vividly colored trees captivates visitors. During the autumn foliage festival period, various events are scheduled—including a safety prayer ceremony, the Dakigaeri Shrine Annual Grand Festival, performing arts showcases, gorge walking guided tours, and a public open house at the Jindai Power Station—allowing visitors to enjoy their strolls even more. The best time to view the autumn leaves is typically from late October to early November; however, since the festival period and the peak of autumn foliage do not always coincide, checking the latest autumn foliage reports is recommended. The promenade is open up to the Iimura Boy Monument, allowing visitors to experience the charm of the gorge on an approximate 40-minute walk. In addition, as a countermeasure against bears, sound-producing metal pipes are installed along the promenade, and traveling in groups is recommended.
