About this event
Held in Mogami Town, Yamagata Prefecture, the 'Tomizawa Festival' is a traditional festival rooted in the local community. During the eve festival, the customary 'Amateur Entertainment Show' is held in the gymnasium of the former Tomizawa Elementary School, featuring creative performances by local residents. In addition, at the Kagura-den (sacred dance stage) on the grounds of Tozen-in Temple, visitors can enjoy the powerful performance of Toyama Kannon Taiko drums and an exhilarating performance by the Mogami Junior High School brass band. Furthermore, the Kurosawa Mochi-Tsuki Preservation Society demonstrates traditional rice-cake pounding and serves freshly made mochi to warmly welcome visitors. During the festival period, children's sumo tournaments and mikoshi (portable shrine) processions are also held, creating a lively atmosphere enjoyed by adults and children alike. Dedicated to Tomizawa Kannon, this festival provides a valuable opportunity to experience regional culture and traditions firsthand.
