Held in Shirataka Town, Yamagata Prefecture, "Welcome to Japan's No. 1 Yana: The 49th Shirataka Ayu Festival" is an event where visitors can taste the famous salt-grilled sweetfish (ayu) while observing a fish trap (yana) that boasts the largest permanent scale in Japan. During the period, the "Unmai-mono Market" bringing together delicious foods from Shirataka Town will also be held, allowing visitors to enjoy the appeal of local cuisine. The venue is Shirataka Yana Park, and admission is free. Access by public transportation is about 5 minutes by car from Yamagata Railway Arayado Station, and by car, it is about 30 minutes from the Tohoku-Chuo Expressway Nanyō Takahata IC via National Route 287. Free parking is also available.
