About this event

A 2-day, 1-night local life experience tour to fully immerse in autumn living will be held in Shirataka Town, Yamagata Prefecture. In nature-rich Shirataka Town overlooking the Mogami River and Asahi Mountain Range, you can experience autumn-exclusive taro digging and manual rice reaping in the terraced rice fields of the Nakayama district. Through making 'imoni' (taro stew), a local specialty dish using freshly harvested taro from a farmer's field, and social gatherings with local residents, you can hear firsthand stories about living, working, and engaging with the community in Shirataka Town. Furthermore, you can enjoy a tour of the Shirataka Town Folk Museum 'Ayumishiru,' bathing in local hot springs within the town, and shopping at local select shops and farm produce direct sales stands. This tour allows participants to experience the pace of 'living in Shirataka' that is hard to see through sightseeing alone and feel the charm of satoyama life firsthand. It is recommended for those interested in immigration, dual-region living, or seeking connections with the local community.
