Sukagawa Kids Market 2026

About this event

This is a vocational and shopping experience project for children aimed at revitalizing downtown Sukagawa City, strengthening connections between shopping streets, local children, and guardians, and fostering career education and local pride. In downtown Sukagawa, children gain hands-on experience working at actual shops and learn about local businesses. Participation is limited to 6th graders from Sukagawa Daiichi Elementary School and Sukagawa Daini Elementary School who apply in advance, capped at the first 20 applicants. On the day, 20 shops located within about a 10-minute walk from Sukagawa Civic Exchange Center tette will participate, and children will experience work at one retail shop and one restaurant. Retail experiences are conducted individually, while restaurant experiences are done in pairs, with participants enjoying delicious staff meals (makanai) at the restaurants. Some shops accept the event-exclusive shopping voucher 'Suka,' allowing children to experience shopping combined with their own pocket money. Through this event, children can deepen their understanding of the local economy and gain valuable opportunities to cultivate the joy of working and affection for the community.
