Japan's Latest Mountain Opening: 2026 Mount Shiode Climbing

Held every year on November 23 (Labor Thanksgiving Day) at Mount Shiode in Soma City, Fukushima Prefecture, "Japan's Latest Mountain Opening: Mount Shiode Climbing" is a unique event where you can climb the mountain while enjoying four-season cherry blossoms (shikizakura) blooming in early winter. From Mount Shiode, which stands at an elevation of 281.5 meters, a scenic panoramic view overlooking downtown Soma City unfolds below. It is ideal for participating with family and friends to relieve daily lack of exercise and promote health. On the day of the event, the gathering location will be Yamakami Elementary School, with reception starting at 8:30 AM and the ceremony beginning at 9:00 AM. For first-time participants or those feeling anxious about climbing, participation in organized groups accompanied by mountain guides is also available. Participation is free, but bringing drinks, climbing equipment, and wearing climbing shoes are recommended. Since accident insurance is not provided, participation is at your own risk.
