About this event
"Ladies in the Swamp" is a story depicting the communal life of four middle-aged women who are passionately devoted to fan activities ("oshi-katsu") for K-POP idol "RION." Living surrounded by RION merchandise transforms them into refined ladies, but one day, their excitement reaches its peak when they win a video call privilege ("yeongtong") allowing them to video call him. However, amidst this, a scoop article about RION stirs up public controversy, forcing the ladies to make life choices. Playwright and director Takahiro Tamura uses "swamp" to describe the way experienced women become addicted to Korean artists and pour money into them, portraying the psychology of having to face a comfort that they cannot escape from. Actresses including Michiko Hada, Rie Shibata, Satomi Achiwa, Junko Nagao, and Yuki Morikawa reunite to delicately portray the preciousness of being able to wholeheartedly support someone and deep life stories. Through an ensemble play packed with humor, it questions what an "oshi" (favorite) is and how it connects to life.
