Otaru Aquarium: A Day to Feel the Breath of Living Creatures
Japanese name:おとたの水族館 ~いきものたちの息づかいを感じる日~
📅 Sat, Sep 26, 2026
About this event
Otaru Aquarium: A Day to Feel the Breath of Living Creatures began as the Silent Aquarium with the goal of letting people with sensory sensitivity/hyperacusis enjoy the aquarium. By eliminating artificial sounds, organizers realized that visitors could discover new ways to enjoy the aquarium—such as hearing the sounds of water and the breath of living creatures that were previously missed—prompting the rename to a more positive title. While the exhibition contents remain the same, it aims to create an aquarium that can be enjoyed even more together with guests. In this quiet environment, you can listen closely to the natural sounds and breathing of the creatures, discovering the aquarium's charms from a different perspective. It will be a special time to sharpen all five senses to feel the creatures' world, including the sound of flowing water, the movement of fish, and the voices of the caretakers.
