The "Ishioka Relay Carnival 2026" held in Ishioka City, Ibaraki Prefecture, is a relay marathon event where diverse groups of participants—such as running teams, co-workers, friends, and families—pass the sash (tasuki). The Full Marathon Relay (42.9 km) is open to Men's, Women's, Mixed, and Corporate teams, accommodating 2 to 15 runners per team with a time limit of 4 hours and 30 minutes. In addition, the 10km Relay (10.4 km) offers Elementary School, Open (high school age and older), and Family (families including elementary school age and above) divisions, consisting of 8-runner teams for elementary school and 2 to 8 runners for others, with a time limit of 1 hour and 20 minutes. Participation fees are 4,000 yen per person for the Full Marathon Relay, 2,500 yen per person for the 10km Relay Open division, 8,000 yen per team for the Elementary School division, and 7,000 yen per team for the Family division. Reception is held at the Ishioka Sports Park from 5:30 to 6:40, followed by the opening ceremony at 6:40 and the start at 7:00. Face towels are planned as participation prizes. Awards will be presented to the top 3 teams in each category, the Tournament Chairman's Award, the Most Participants Award, and lucky draw prizes (tobi-sho). The event takes place at Ishioka Sports Park and is accessible in about 15 minutes from the Joban Expressway Chiyoda-Ishioka IC. Free parking is available for 500 cars, though carpooling is recommended. The purpose of the event is to promote Ishioka City as an advanced sports city, maintain and enhance the physical fitness of citizens, and deepen teamwork and interaction through relay competition.
