Kitaibaraki Cultural Heritage Public Exhibition: Intensive Airing

About this event

"Bakuryo" refers to the airing out of items to prevent mold and insect infestation. On this occasion, rare cultural properties normally not visible to the public will be specially exhibited. On Sunday, September 20, at Chosho-ji Temple on Mount Omiya, the "Wooden Standing Bodhisattva Statue" (made in the Heian period, 12th century, and said to have been formerly owned by Tenshin Okakura) and the "Color on Silk Amida Raigo Painting" (made in the Kamakura period, first half of the 14th century) will be open for public viewing. On the same day, the "Chouchou Temple Marche" will be held concurrently, featuring handmade goods for sale, kitchen cars, workshops, ninja experiences, and Tosenkyo fan-tossing games. On Saturday, November 7, the prefecture-designated cultural properties "Giant Cedar" and "Koyamaki (Japanese umbrella pine)" will be exhibited at Hanazono Shrine, along with a grounds tour led by the head priest. On the same day, tours of the Ishioka First Power Station facilities, a nationally designated cultural property, will be conducted by advance reservation. Furthermore, at Joren-ji Temple on Mount Hachiyo, the city-designated cultural property main hall and the 33 Kannon statues will be open for viewing, which can be enjoyed alongside the autumn foliage. The birthplace of Ujo Noguchi will also be open, allowing visitors to tour the second floor, which is normally not open. At the Ibaraki University Izura Institute of Arts and Culture, you can visit the former residence and garden of Tenshin Okakura, Daigozura, Kogozura, and Tenshin Okakura's grave site. At the Kitaibaraki City Historical and Folk Museum, "The Ascetic of Omine" by Shuzan Tobita will be on display. Events may be canceled in case of stormy weather.
