About this event
Held at Kasama Inari Shrine and other venues in Kasama City, Ibaraki Prefecture, the "119th Kasama Chrysanthemum Festival" is a historic chrysanthemum festival founded in 1908 (Meiji 41). Within the shrine grounds, approximately 5,000 pots of diverse and colorful chrysanthemums—such as standing chrysanthemums, cascading chrysanthemums (kengai), thousand-bloom chrysanthemums (senrinzaki), classical chrysanthemums, and bonsai chrysanthemums—are exhibited. A chrysanthemum competition by the Ibaraki Chrysanthemum Federation will also be held, making for an impressive view. Passing through the 10-meter-tall Grand Torii Gate, visitors can enjoy the "Umbrella Sky" with Japanese umbrellas expanding across the sky, as well as the "Ema Hall Japanese Umbrella Art" at the Ema Hall. The water purification basin may also turn into a "Chrysanthemum Chozuya" with floating chrysanthemum flowers, offering many social-media-ready photo spots. At Kasama Inari Shrine, special Goshuin stamps and chrysanthemum-themed Goshuincho stamp books for the chrysanthemum festival are also prepared (available while supplies last).
