About this event

At the Hirasawa Kanga Ruins History Plaza, a nationally designated historic site, the 'Hirasawa Kanga Ruins Manto Summer Festival' will be held. At this historic site featuring reconstructed ancient raised-floor storehouses, the reconstructed buildings will be illuminated, and colorful lanterns (manto) crafted with heartfelt care by elementary and junior high school students and volunteers will be lit. The fantastical ancient scenery emerging in the darkness will surely enchant visitors. In addition, lanterns created during 'Tsukuba Chibikko Hakase 2026: Let's Design Manto!' held on July 18 and 19 will also be exhibited, adding color to the event. Japanese taiko drumming performances are also scheduled, further enlivening the festival atmosphere. Admission is free. The exhibition of lantern artworks starts at 12:00 PM, and the Manto Summer Festival kicks off at 5:30 PM. The illumination of reconstructed buildings and the lighting of the lanterns will begin at 6:00 PM. In the event of rain or strong winds, it may be postponed to the following day, Sunday the 23rd.
