About this event

Held in Makabe-cho, Sakuragawa City, Ibaraki Prefecture, the "Makabe Street Lights: Jusan-ya Festival" claims to be Japan's tiniest festival and is held every October in the grounds of Makabe Denshokan and the Emperor Jimmu Distant Worship Hall. There are plenty of events that people of all ages from children to adults can enjoy, such as the Makabe Rakuichi Market and live music performances. In addition to Hayato Adachi's kei truck live performance, giant paper lanterns painted by students and children of Makabe Gakuen, shadow plays, stone lanterns, and handmade paper lanterns will be displayed, creating a magical world of lights. There will also be Shinto rituals at Goshokomataki Shrine, distribution of Jusan-ya Festival limited goshuin (shrine stamps), and exhibitions of classic cars and motorcycles. The pedestrian precinct will run from 14:00 to 19:00, and the light-up will take place from 16:00 to 19:00. An andon (lantern) workshop will also be held beforehand, and the lanterns made will be exhibited at the festival. As a concurrent event on the same day, "Bamboo Lanterns & New Sake to Enjoy in Makabe Town" will also be held.
