Mito International Music Festival 2026

About this event

An international music festival held across the central Ibaraki region including Mito City (Mito, Kasama, Oarai, Hitachinaka, Naka) under the concept of "Fusion of Music and Tourism." Centered on concerts by artists active both domestically and internationally, the festival presents programs intersecting diverse genres including traditional music, contemporary music, and performing arts. It is a new celebration of culture and music that local residents and visitors can enjoy together. In addition to attending concerts, visitors can encounter music while touring the city and experience sound amidst local culture and nature, offering a unique artistic experience available only here. Marking the 30th anniversary of the passing of world-renowned composer Toru Takemitsu, the Director's Program will feature his works in commemoration. Furthermore, master classes with direct guidance from professional musicians and workshops to practically learn the structure and acoustics of traditional instruments such as gagaku and shakuhachi will be held. At the Festival Market, music enthusiasts from within and outside the region will present independent performances to enliven the festival.
