About this event

This special exhibition focuses on Tomone Kobori, a master of modern historical painting from Sano City, Tochigi Prefecture. Amid the diverse developments of modern Japanese painting (Nihonga), Tomone Kobori followed a complex path. This exhibition surveys his artistic standing alongside newly acquired works and materials of Tomone as well as modern Japanese paintings from the Yoshizawa Collection. Since the exhibits change significantly between the first and second halves, you can enjoy it twice. Concurrently, 'Hazan Itaya in Modern Crafts' is also held. Opening hours are 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Closed on Mondays, the day after public holidays, and during the exhibition turnover period (August 24 to 28). Admission is 520 yen for general admission (470 yen for groups of 20 or more). Admission is free for university students and younger, disability certificate holders, and one caregiver. Admission payment is cash only. Reservations are not required except for groups, but entry restrictions may apply.
