About this event

Held in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture, the "Nijusan'ya Festival" is a festival dedicated to "Nijusan'yason," enshrined on the grounds of Oiwake Jizoson. Affectionately known locally as "Osanya-sama (san)," it has long been celebrated as a festival of "Tsukimachi (moon-waiting) faith," where incense is offered to pray for safe childbirth and healthy child-rearing. Held as a summer memorial service festival at Oiwake Jizoson, situated at the junction of the Nikko Kaido and Nikko Reiheishi Kaido highways, visitors offer incense and pray to the Jizo statue within the temple grounds, while stalls line the adjacent cedar-lined Nikko Reiheishi Kaido avenue, allowing visitors to enjoy the atmosphere of a summer night festival. Organized by the local neighborhood association, various programs such as lotteries and band performances are also conducted.
