
Dedication of the Evil-Warding Giant Straw Sandal in the Serinuma District

About this event
A giant evil-warding straw sandal (Owaraji) that protects the local area is newly woven, installed, and dedicated annually on the last Sunday of August. In this traditional event, a traditional performing lion dance (Shishimai) is also dedicated alongside it, carried down as an important long-standing regional festival. The schedule for the day begins with straw sandal making in the morning, followed by the installation of the straw sandal and the dedication of the lion dance at Sengen Shrine around 13:00. Afterwards, a lion dance dedication is scheduled at Takaotoko Shrine around 14:00, and straw sandal installation and a lion dance dedication are scheduled at the Serinuma Intersection around 14:30. This festival is a cherished traditional culture handed down from ancient times, praying for the safety and prosperity of local residents.
