2026 Otawara Children's Festival

About this event

Held to provide children in the city with many fun play programs suited for summer vacation, promote healthy child development, and advance children's association activities, the '2026 Otawara Children's Festival' offers an opportunity to learn through play, including science experiment workshops, an allowance game, and parent-child English classes. In the science experiment workshop themed 'The World of Minus 196 Degrees: Freezing Things with Liquid Nitrogen', participants can observe everyday items freezing in liquid nitrogen. In the allowance game, children can have fun learning how to spend money using mock currency and study how to use an allowance ledger. In the parent-child English class, children naturally engage with English and develop an ear for the language through games and physical movement. Other diverse programs include the Cultural Promotion Division experience corner with archery, can badge making, and kumihimo braiding; the Health Check Adventure presented by Pinocchio Pharmacy where parents and children can learn about health; 'Catch It! Energy-Boosting Breakfast', a fishing game for thinking about balanced breakfasts; original can badge making; a toy hospital that repairs broken toys; and a Japan Self-Defense Forces booth with a VR airborne drop experience. Outdoor events include displays of police patrol cars and police motorcycles, access to a mobile library, food and drink sales by local restaurants, and free shaved ice distribution.
