About this event
Held in Ohtawara City, Tochigi Prefecture, the "34th Basho no Sato Kurobane Sweetfish Fishing Tournament" is an event set along the nature-rich Naka River that aims to deepen interactions through ayu (sweetfish) fishing and pass down the beautiful nature to future generations. The tournament takes place behind the Kurobane Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the right bank of the Naka River (commonly known as Machi-ura), across the section from the Kurobane Kanko Yana weir to next to the Water Treatment Center. Eligible participants must be junior high school students or older, and anyone from inside or outside the city can participate. The entry fee is 3,000 yen (including decoy fish), and a separate fishing permit is required. On the day of the event, registration begins at 7:00 AM, and the competition runs from 8:30 AM to noon. The awards ceremony will be held starting at 1:30 PM. A backup date is also set to accommodate any adverse weather. This tournament will be a great opportunity not only to experience the real thrill of sweetfish fishing, but also to rediscover the charm of the local natural environment.
