About this event

The "Maebashi Festival" was born aiming for post-war reconstruction, citizen vitality, and hope for living. The festival bustles with men and women of all ages in stylish attire, featuring an elementary school fife and drum parade, Maebashi's unique naruko dance "Danbee Dance," "float processions," "portable shrines (mikoshi)," and "Gion floats." Originally started as a reconstruction festival in 1948 shortly after the war, it was renamed the Maebashi Commerce and Industry Festival in 1949 and then the Maebashi Festival in 1959. Today, it has become a major event with all-citizen participation including neighborhood associations, companies, and various organizations. Floats and portable shrines parade through the town, with the excitement escalating even further at night with the portable shrines.
