About this event
The Bokusui Festival is held to commemorate the poet Wakayama Bokusui, who crossed the Kuresaka Pass from Kusatsu to Sawatari on October 20, 1922, and wrote "Kareno no Tabi" (Journey Across the Withered Fields). Led primarily by the Bokusui Poetry Monument Preservation Society, the festival takes place annually on October 20 in front of the Bokusui Poetry Monument. During this season, Kuresaka Pass features magnificent autumn foliage of Japanese larch and deciduous trees, and visiting tourists are treated to complimentary nameko mushroom soup. Amid rustic nature, visitors can remember the late Wakayama Bokusui. On the day, in front of the monument inscribed with Wakayama Bokusui's "Kareno no Tabi," attendees can honor his achievements and appreciate the beauty of nature.
