About this event

The mini exhibition "History of the Cement Industry in Chichibu" held at Rissho University Museum focuses on the research themes of the Department of Geo-environmental Science's Transportation Geography Laboratory, presenting research results and spotlighting the close relationship between regional industries and transportation infrastructure. The history of Chichibu Cement Co., Ltd. (currently Taiheiyo Cement Corporation), representing Chichibu's cement industry, will be introduced through panel displays showing its transition from founding to the present. Featuring interviews with employees from that time, it deeply explores the industrial development process. In addition, with the cooperation of Chichibu Railway Co., Ltd., which contributed to transporting limestone—the raw material for cement—valuable related items such as the reverser handles and freight timetables of Deki 107 and Deki 108, which were active in freight transport, will also be exhibited. Activity records of the Transportation Geography Laboratory and related exhibits by the museum are also scheduled, making it an exhibition where visitors can learn about the connections between transportation and regional industry from multiple angles.
