Japanese name:本庄まつり2026
📅 Mon, Nov 2, 2026 - Tue, Nov 3, 2026
About this event
The Honjo Festival, held annually in Honjo City, Saitama Prefecture, is beloved as the annual grand festival of Kanasana Shrine, and in 2026 it will take place on Monday, November 2 and Tuesday (national holiday), November 3. The festival's greatest highlight is the procession of 10 gorgeous, magnificent festival floats parading through downtown Honjo. In particular, on Tuesday, November 3 (national holiday), the Goshinko-sai procession and floats depart from Kanasana Shrine at 12:10, parading along Ekimae-dori Avenue from 14:30. Then, from 19:00, all floats gather at Honjo Gas ECO Hanipon Plaza for the duty town handover ceremony, marking the climax of the festival. Many of the floats are city-designated cultural properties crafted from the Meiji period through the Taisho period, decorated with figures of historical and legendary figures such as Momotaro, Empress Jingu, and Kato Kiyomasa, evoking history and tradition. During the festival period, a float app is also available to check the real-time locations of the floats and festival updates. In addition, 100-yen discount tickets will be distributed for buses running between this event and the Kodama Autumn Festival held on the same day, making it convenient to enjoy both festivals. On the afternoon of Monday, November 2, floats will be pulled around each neighborhood, allowing visitors to experience the festival atmosphere early.
