Organized by Soka City, Saitama Prefecture, 'The 4th Soka Matsubara Exhibition: Nationally Designated Place of Scenic Beauty, Landscape of Oku no Hosomichi' is a nationwide open-call painting exhibition themed on 'Soka Matsubara' or 'Pine Trees.' In the 1st through 3rd editions, numerous appealing works capturing pine trees from various angles were submitted, and entries that convey the essence of Soka are expected this time as well. Eligibility is open to residents of Japan who are 15 years old or older as of April 1, 2026 (Reiwa 8), excluding junior high school students. Works must be framed two-dimensional pieces within Size F10 (53.0 cm x 45.5 cm), covering oil paintings, watercolors, pastels, Nihonga (Japanese-style paintings), illustrations, etc. Prize money is 300,000 yen for the Grand Prize, 50,000 yen for the Excellence Award, and 20,000 yen for the Fine Work Award. The judges include art critic Teizo Taki, Director of Kawasaki City Taro Okamoto Museum of Art Meiji Hijikata, and Shinseisaku Association member Kimiko Suzuki. For direct drop-off, works should be delivered to Acos Gallery on Saturday, October 10 to Sunday, October 11, 2026 (Reiwa 8) from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For shipment, submit the application form to Heart & Art Co., Ltd. during the advance application period from Tuesday, September 1 to Wednesday, September 30, 2026 (Reiwa 8) (must arrive by deadline), and then send the artwork to Acos Gallery on the designated date and time. The exhibition will be held at Acos Gallery from Wednesday, November 25 to Friday, December 4, 2026.
