JR East Omiya Branch Office and the Shinkansen Operations Headquarters will host the Washinomiya Maintenance Base Deadhead Track Ride and Shinkansen Maintenance Vehicle Driving Experience at the Washinomiya Maintenance Base in Kuki City, Saitama Prefecture. In this event, participants can ride on a Shinkansen maintenance vehicle along the Washinomiya Maintenance Base deadhead track that merges onto the Tohoku Shinkansen main line—an area normally off-limits to the public. In addition, participants can experience driving a Shinkansen maintenance vehicle themselves, watch the coupling of maintenance vehicles up close, and experience riding through switchback tracks at the base. It is a valuable opportunity to learn how maintenance vehicles, used for inspecting and repairing Shinkansen electrical facilities, operate. Now in its 3rd year, this event is packed with the appeal of the Washinomiya Maintenance Base and Shinkansen maintenance vehicles.
