About this event

In Rankoshi Town, Hokkaido, the 'Our Family's Rice Paddy' project will be held, allowing parents and children to experience a full year of rice cultivation. In this project, instead of rice easily bought at supermarkets, parents and children experience the process of touching mud, planting rice seedlings with their own hands, letting them mature, and eventually reaching the dining table. Themed around the brand rice 'Rankoshi Rice' grown in beautiful rice fields surrounded by the Niseko Mountain Range, participants experience rice farming throughout the year—rice planting in spring, rice harvesting in autumn, and shimenawa rope making in winter—enabling them to physically understand the meaning of 'itadakimasu' (gratitude for food), and feel the importance of food, the charm of agriculture, and the connection with local people. In particular, during the autumn rice harvesting experience, participants can use the rice harvested with their own hands to experience subsequent threshing and hulling, as well as tasting freshly harvested rice. Families participating in the rice harvesting experience also receive a bonus gift of 5 kg of newly harvested 'Nanatsuboshi' rice harvested from the rice paddy they nurtured. This project aims to build a relationship that is 'more than tourism, less than relocation' rather than simple sightseeing or moving, hoping to become an opportunity for people to feel Rankoshi Town is 'a place they want to return to.' It is recommended for those who want to provide nature and food education to children, those interested in agricultural experiences, those who want to loosely connect with rural regions, and those interested in future relocation or dual-location living.
