52nd Otaki Castle Festival

About this event

Beloved as the main event of Otaki Town, the "52nd Otaki Castle Festival" began in 1975 to commemorate the reconstruction of Otaki Castle and is a regular annual event coloring the local history and culture. The main highlight of the festival is the warrior procession dressed as Lord Tadakatsu Honda—one of the Four Heavenly Kings of the Tokugawa—and his retinue, featuring armored troops in handmade armor and youth warrior troupes marching through the castle town streets that retain their historic atmosphere. At the main venue centered around the Otaki Town Office, there are various stage performances, food and merchandise vendor booths, and a rich array of hands-on corners for children, making it enjoyable for all ages. Local celebrity Masayuki Watanabe and guest celebrity Kuniko Yamada will also appear to add glamour to the warrior procession. At the post-festival event, light art such as candle cups and bamboo lanterns illuminate the streets, accompanied by local dances, taiko drumming, and a portable shrine (mikoshi) procession to enliven the festival. Furthermore, the annual popular fireworks display has been upgraded this year, offering a spectacular visual display that colors the night sky.
