About this event
This is the 63rd edition of the annual summer event held in the open square next to the Harutori Park Nature Center in Kushiro City. Set along the shores of Lake Harutori, a place beloved by Kushiro citizens, the event is packed with programs to enjoy starting in the daytime, including a lakeside walking rally quiz, a treasure hunt, outdoor live musical performances, and festival food stalls. The highlight of the night is the fireworks display over the lake, where the fireworks reflecting on the water's surface are exceptionally beautiful. It is an atmospheric festival perfectly suited for the cool summer nights of Kushiro, allowing visitors to forget the hustle and bustle of the city and relax by the quiet lakeside surrounded by nature. The fireworks reflected on Lake Harutori are magical and a must-see. With abundant participatory events such as the walk rally and treasure hunt, enjoying street food while listening to outdoor concerts has become a quintessential Kushiro summer tradition. This historic lake festival began around 1964 and marks its 63rd edition in 2026. Lake Harutori is a coastal lagoon with a circumference of approximately 4.7 km located in central Kushiro City, also known as the habitat of the Japanese red crucian carp (hibuna), a nationally designated Natural Monument.
