A historic summer festival held in Agano City, Niigata Prefecture, the 'Suibara Festival' features the 'The Toro Live,' where young people jostle giant lanterns against each other, as its greatest highlight. This traditional event has been handed down by the local community. At the festival venues, joint dances of local traditional performing arts Kagura and Lion Dance are showcased, and a folk dance parade contest dancing the Suibara Jinku by local groups is also held along Suibara Honcho Street. During the festival period, areas in front of the Suibara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Honcho Street, and the Suibara Daikansho Magistrate's Office bustle with many people. In addition, on the following day, the Agano City Grand Fireworks Festival is held on the shores of Lake Hyo, where grand fireworks lighting up the night sky can also be enjoyed. Festival stalls are also scheduled to open, making it an event that colors the summer night.
