About this event
Held annually from November 1 to 24 within the grounds of Yahiko Shrine, revered as the Echigo Ichinomiya (the highest-ranking shrine of Echigo Province), this is a grand chrysanthemum exhibition. Considered the foremost in the nation in terms of the number of exhibitors and entered items, the exhibition features works painstakingly nurtured over an entire year by chrysanthemum enthusiasts from both within and outside the prefecture. The divisions are diverse, spanning multi-flowering large chrysanthemums with hundreds of blossoms blooming from a single rootstock, classic medium chrysanthemums, cascading small chrysanthemums (kengai), and chrysanthemum bonsai, offering a comprehensive view of the wide range of craftsmanship in chrysanthemum cultivation. Among them, a famous highlight is the "Grand Landscape Flowerbed," created every year with a different theme using 30,000 potted small chrysanthemum cuttings, whose magnificent depiction of seasonal scenery through flowers captivates visitors. The Prince Tomohito Award is bestowed upon the top exhibiting entry. Firmly established as an event representing autumn in Yahiko, it bustles with many visitors.
