Special Public Opening of Watanabe Residence

About this event

The Watanabe Residence, where the feudal lords of the Shibata and Murakami domains are said to have stayed, and which boasts the dignity of an official inn (honjin) with continuous tatami rooms equipped with an entrance step (shikidai), norikomi carriage porch, and shoen alcove, will be specially opened to the public for two days only. On this occasion, the interior of this historic building designated as a National Registered Tangible Cultural Property will be opened, and mini-lectures will be held regarding its history, architectural features, and relationship with the Aizu Highway. In addition, a town walk visiting remnants of the post town preserved in the Yakiyama settlement will be conducted. A "Lord's Meal" (Tonosama-zen) will be prepared for lunch, and participants can enjoy a valuable experience for a participation fee that includes materials and lunch. The recruitment capacity is 20 people per session, and advance registration is required.
