"Takaoka Rakugo Festival 2026" is a celebration of rakugo (traditional comedic storytelling) set in Takaoka City, held from Friday, November 27 to Sunday, November 29, 2026. Marking its milestone 10th edition, the festival features a diverse lineup of programs, including the final performance headlined by Kingentei Bakyo, who was newly promoted to the highest shin'uchi rank. As a special guest, Yanagiya Karoku will also appear, energizing Takaoka for the first time in 3 years since his 2023 performance. Additionally, Shunputei Ichihana, who was promoted to shin'uchi this year, the talented young Tachibanaya Bungo, and juggler Straight Matsuura will also perform, fully conveying the charm of rakugo. On the first day, a related lecture will be held where Kingentei Bakyo clearly explains how to watch and enjoy rakugo, offering content that can be enjoyed by everyone from beginners to enthusiasts. Audiences can also enjoy the atmosphere of each venue, such as performances at the atmospheric Ryutozan Koan and the Toyama Shimbun Culture Center Takaoka Headquarters. Over the course of 3 days, it will be a valuable opportunity to experience the art and culture of rakugo in the city of Takaoka.
