Uozu Hachimangu Lantern and Mikoshi Festival

This is a heroic festival where 12 mikoshi (portable shrines) from the 12 parish neighborhoods of Uozu Hachimangu visit houses throughout the area before all gathering at the shrine. The festival reaches its climax during 'Miyage,' when the purified portable shrines are hoisted onto the worship hall three times each in succession. The resonance of flutes and drums and the roaring cheers of the crowd are extremely powerful, bringing energy to the spectators. This festival is a traditional event expressing gratitude and the joy of being able to celebrate.
