About this event

Doshomichi Trail 2026 is a trail running competition held along 'Doshomichi', the ancient mountain pilgrimage path of World Heritage site Gokayama. Running once again along the historic path once walked by ancient travelers, this second edition marking two years since its revival features a revamped Long Course adopting a 37km one-way route that follows the original 'Doshomichi' from Gokayama to Inami Betsuin Zuisenji Temple. Starting against the backdrop of the beautiful original scenery of World Heritage Gassho-zukuri villages, traversing rugged yet rich mountain wilderness, and arriving at the woodcarving village of Inami, the 37km journey transcends mere sport into a special experience of deep dialogue with history, nature, and oneself. The Middle Course (16km) is a loop course starting and finishing in front of Inami Betsuin Zuisenji Temple that traverses the mountains around Mt. Yaotome, suitable for runners who want to tackle mountain paths with substantial elevation gain in a short time. Former Nordic combined skier Akito Watabe will participate as a guest runner. As there are changes to the schedule and check-in procedures on the day of the event, participants must be sure to check the latest information.
