About this event
The 'Sakai no Shishimai' (Sakai Lion Dance), a folk performing art handed down in Asahi Town, Toyama Prefecture, has been cherished and preserved for generations as a local treasure. Classified as an Echigo-style Kagura lion dance, it carries prayers for bountiful harvests in spring and expresses gratitude for abundant crops in autumn. As the lion dance visits homes throughout the community, spectators can locate the performances by following the sound of the flutes. Since schedules and routes may change due to weather conditions, checking in advance is recommended. Visitors are also requested to show consideration for the neighborhood, such as avoiding street parking. In 2026, the 'Sakai Lion Dance' will be held as a spring festival on April 12 (Sun), and as an autumn festival on October 11 (Sun) from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The venue is Sakai Shrine and Seki no Yakata (1561 Sakai, Asahi Town).
