About this event

At the Ishikawa Prefectural Museum of History's Fiscal Year 2026 Autumn Special Exhibition "Cute Costumes of the World," approximately 120 costumes from around the world, selected with the keyword "kawaii" (cute) from the collection of the National Museum of Ethnology, will be exhibited. Costumes nurtured across various climates, terrains, societies, and cultures convey not only rich colors, patterns, shapes, and diverse ways of wearing, but also the allure of handcrafts such as weaving, dyeing, embroidery, and lace. Through costumes that have brightened daily life, visitors can appreciate the wisdom, ingenuity, and techniques of people. By turning our thoughts toward the world of the people who wear them, this exhibition offers an opportunity to reexamine our own attire. As a regional display, "Ishikawa's 'Kawaii' Children's Costumes" will also be introduced, exhibiting kimonos dedicated to Kishimojin at Shinjo-ji Temple in Kanazawa as well as festival costumes from Kaga and Noto. During the exhibition period, commemorative lectures, gallery talks, and decorative stitching experience workshops will also be held, allowing visitors to deepen their understanding of the culture and history behind the costumes.
