About this event

The "Nanao Castle Festival" is held to promote the charms of Nanao Castle—ranked among Japan's Top 100 Castles and Five Great Mountain Castles—nationwide, and to contribute to town revitalization and bustling castle-town activity. At the eve-of-festival event, food trucks gather for the Castle Town Bustling Seiran Market, and a castle town lottery with luxurious prizes will be held. In addition, an evening of traditional Japanese music will take place at the Kaikokan "Iida House," where visitors can also enjoy an enchanting corridor of lights. At the main festival, a shrine ritual will be held at the Nanao Castle Honmaru ruins, featuring performances of Honen Taiko drumming, sword/poetry dances (Kenshibu), and a children's samurai warrior procession. Hands-on activities such as the Nanao Castle Ruins Walk Rally and an AR treasure hunt are also offered, allowing visitors to experience the history of Nanao Castle while enjoying the nature of Shiroyama. Concurrently, the Kaikokan "Iida House" and the Nanao Castle History Museum will be open for free, offering deep insight into Nanao Castle's history and culture.
